# Privacy Policy for DailyGlance

**Last updated: August 3, 2026**

## Introduction

Welcome to DailyGlance. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, what leaves your device and what does not. We have tried to describe this precisely rather than generally, so you can check it against what the app actually does.

## What Stays On Your Device

The daily text itself never leaves your device:

- **Publication Content:** The EPUB you import or download is stored on your device, parsed on your device, and never uploaded anywhere
- **Widget Settings:** Your style, colour, font and text-size choices are stored locally using iOS App Groups so the app, widgets and Apple Watch complication can share them
- **Read State:** Which days you have marked as read is stored locally

We have no server that holds your content, and there is no account to sign in to.

## Analytics

DailyGlance uses **Firebase Analytics** (a Google service) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This collects:

- **Usage events** — for example that a widget style was chosen, that an edition download started, succeeded or failed, or that the app was opened from a widget. These record *that* an action happened, never the scripture or commentary text you were reading
- **Device identifiers and general device information** — an app-instance identifier, device model and operating system version, as generated by the Firebase SDK

This data is not used for advertising, and DailyGlance does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Analytics is active by default; the app does not currently offer a setting to turn it off. Google's handling of this data is governed by [Google's Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).

## Feedback You Choose To Send

If you use **Send Feedback** in the app, we receive what you submit:

- Your message
- Your email address, **only if you choose to enter it** — the field is optional
- The app version, your device model and your iOS version
- If you are reporting a failed import, a technical description of that error

This is sent only when you tap Send. We use it to reply to you and to fix the problem, and we keep it only as long as that takes. We do not sell it or pass it to anyone else.

## Network Connections The App Makes

Downloading an edition happens **directly between your device and jw.org**. DailyGlance does not proxy, host or mirror any publication, and we do not receive a copy of what you download or see which language you chose:

- The app asks jw.org's public publication media service where the edition you selected can be downloaded, then downloads it from jw.org's content delivery network. As with visiting any website, jw.org receives your device's IP address, and their own privacy policy applies to that request
- The app periodically refreshes its **list of available languages** from `dailyglance.hales.nz`, which is hosted on GitHub Pages. That request tells the host only that a device asked for the list; it carries no identifier from the app. GitHub's standard server logging applies

## In-App Purchases

DailyGlance offers optional tip jar purchases to support development. These transactions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information, and Apple's privacy policy governs these transactions.

## Data Retention

Feedback you send is kept only as long as it takes to answer you and fix what you reported. Analytics data is retained by Google according to the Firebase Analytics retention settings for this app. Everything else stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app.

## Your Rights

- **Feedback is optional**, and the email address within it is optional too
- **Deletion:** Uninstalling the app removes the publication, the parsed daily texts, your settings and your read state from your device
- **Analytics:** you can limit some device level identifiers through iOS Settings. To ask what analytics data is associated with your device, contact us using the details below
- **Portability:** Any EPUB you imported remains yours and can be used in other applications

## Children's Privacy

DailyGlance is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly solicit personal information from them. The only place the app invites you to enter personal information is the optional email field in the feedback form.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
